At dinner last night I was infuriated when my guest told me of the inappropriate conduct the car service driver had provided. During the course of her trip, he put pressure on her to become his ‘friend’. Clearly this chap has been using his position of power, as the driver of the vehicle, to exploit individuals. My guest was both intimidated and concerned for her safety.
Our lengthy conversation journeyed through everything from women’s rights in Australia and other countries, to general safety and awareness. It’s true that threats differ in countries and, it’s true that some are the same. It highlighted the importance of us all educating our guests.
So even if you think it obvious not to wear your headphones, walking home in the dark, face glued to the mobile phone screen, it might not be obvious to all. Have a chat with your guests about ways they can keep themselves safe.
